Disclosure Policy
ASN is committed to ensuring the integrity of its scientific, educational, and research activities. ASN’s conflict of interest policy requires disclosure of any financial or other interest (commitment) that might be construed as resulting in an actual, potential, or perceived conflict. Authors are required to disclose any financial relationship or commitment for the previous 36 months held by the author and any spouse/partner of the author.
ASN Journal Disclosure Process
1. Go to https://www.asn-online.org/journaldisclosure/
2. Log into your ASN profile. If you do not yet have an ASN Profile, you will be prompted to create an account.
3. Follow the prompts on the ASN website or use the instructions listed below.
4. Once you have successfully logged in, click the “Disclosure” link on the right-hand side of the page.
5. If changes are needed or if you receive an on-screen message that your disclosures have expired, click the “Update your Disclosure” option. If no changes are needed, proceed to step 6 below.
6. If you are updating your disclosures, the system will display instructions and options for you. This is where you will identify information like research funding,
honorarium, and more. After you submit your updated disclosure information, click “Continue” so that you can complete the process.
7. On the following page, click the “Journal Disclosure PDF” button.
8. After you click the button to create the “Journal Disclosure PDF,” the system will ask you for the manuscript ID and manuscript
title. You can copy and paste these from the submission system. Once complete, click “Download Form.”
9. As soon as you click “Download Form,” the button will change to display “Generating” and the Journal Disclosure PDF will be downloaded. Save the downloaded PDF file.
10. Upload the PDF file to the journal submission site.
Failure to comply with the above disclosure statement requirements could lead to the following:
• Incomplete disclosure of potential conflicts of interest may lead to rejection of submitted manuscripts.
• For conflicts identified after publication, JASN and CJASN reserve the right to sanction authors for their failure to accurately and completely report the potential financial conflicts of interest. The sanctions may range from issuing a correction, reporting to the authors’ institution, banning authors from submitting work to ASN journals for varying lengths of time, and/or retraction of the published work.
Visual Abstracts
The CJASN Editorial Team will create a Visual Abstract for all accepted original articles. They will develop the Visual Abstract to fit with the approved CJASN style and format. Authors will have the opportunity to review, and edit as necessary, the Visual Abstract prior to publication. CJASN may use the Visual Abstract in any Tweets and in any other appropriate materials.
The CJASN Visual Abstract Primer explains the CJASN approach to Visual Abstracts including referencing the standard templates that CJASN first used when Visual Abstracts were introduced. While the template styles are still in place, the fluid nature of content has provided CJASN with the opportunity to be more creative with the design of Visual Abstracts thereby better serving readers and authors.
